Greetings!

Welcome to my blog, 'A Lifetime with pets', which is about exactly that. My four children are all finally reaching the stage in life where they think about spreading their wings, and that has given me some time to reflect back upon the amazing journey that we have come through as a family and I came to the realization that many of our most important stepping stones included some extra family members- our pets.

This blog is intended to be a friendly place where we can all share the stories of our beloved pets and how they have influenced each of us. Follow along as I recount various milestones or tremendous moments that have occurred during the raising of my family, and how our pets were involved in each of them.

It is my firm belief that having so many pets around during the influential part of their childhood has had a tremendous positive development on each of my children. I hope to encourage you with our experiences. Feel free to comment and send me your own stories.

Mickey the little Houdini

Mickey is a little Houdini when it comes to getting out of the back yard. We tried everything to find out how he was getting out. No matter how we tried to catch him, it was like he knew we were watching, but as soon as we quit watching then he was at the front door.  He knew he wasn’t supposed to be out. When we would come home, Mickey would be on the front porch and take off as fast as his little feet would take him around the side of the house into the back yard; waiting at the back door like he had been there all day.

Shaggy Koda gets shaved

Koda's hair doesn't grow long like most Cockers instead it gets thick and curly. Its so thick that it makes his hair like a sponge, that soaks up the water from the grass which takes 2 towels just to get the worst out. So about every three months we have to shave poor Koda. Poor Koda ha poor us. It takes us 2 to 3 days to shave him  2 to 3 days poor us. It takes so long due to the fact that his hair is so thick we have to shave each spots 4 times. Our poor backs give out and the clippers get hot. Yes poor Koda does need a break also. This is Koda shaved.

Mickey the boss always supervising.

Rica is being mean to Koda and having him slide on the tile floor into the wall. This is very noisy and active. Which means Micky has to keep an eye on them and make sure Koda doesn't misbehave. We all know supervising has to be in your way and of course to supervise you tell everyone how to do whatever they are doing. I'm proud to say after 14 years Micky has supervising down.

Little Mickey Bear

Our oldest member Mickey who is always underfoot, is making his rounds. Making sure every dog is behaving, and that we don't have something he wants. Mickey has a very active life keeping everyone in line.

Koda's huge feet!!!!!!

Koda feet are hugh, I think he trips over them. I wouldn't be surprise if they were as big as an German Shepard's.The first picture is Rica with Koda sitting in her lap and she holding his feet up.His hugh almost German Shepard size feet. The second picture is Rica holding Koda's paw in her hand, which is bigger then her palm. Look at those hugh feet. Our dogs don't know what small is. They think larger then normal is small.

Petfinder cocker spaniel for adoption

Scooter is a loveable purebreed cocker spaniel. He is good with people, loves children, and gets along well with other dogs. He is an outdoor dog and has lived in a large fenced yard with kennel. He is up to date on all vaccinations and is in excellent health. Current owner is physically unable to care for him. http://www.petfinder.com/classifieds/searchclassified.cgi?type=P&user_state=user

Koda Baby

Koda baby is pitch black; he blends in with the shadows. What you can't see in the picture above is his adorable white stripe on his chest. He also has giant paws that are very painful and dangerous. He weights over 37 pounds, which is over ten pounds heavier than your average cocker spaniel. He isn't over-weight; he is just a big dog.
Koda is also a bit of a coward. Ok that's a lie. He is a huge coward. Strangers terrify him. Even strangers he sees every day. Loud noises or even strange noises have him hiding behind me or in my lap. When he is scared he barks at everything that moves.
Koda is very attached to me. He is like my shadow. A shadow that doesn't stay in the shadows. I am constantly tripping over him and or kneeing him. He turns walking through the house; rather I'm going to our room or to the front door into a race. He usually wins unless he slips and slides on the tile floor. If I disappear for two seconds, which happens when he raced me to the wrong room; he acts like I was gone for week. Sometimes when he is following me through the house he looses me for a bit and freaks out. He will scramble after me and slip and slide on the tile floor desperately trying to get traction. It is funny to watch as his paws fly all over the place. I can't count how many times he has slid into walls because he tries to turn to fast.

Crazy cat, loves water

We know cats love to chase or catch moving things, but trying to catch water is a harder then this kitten will admit. Will this kitten like the bath as well as the bath water?

Lady Alice

Alice (squirmy noisy Alice) is the hardest pet to get a picture of, because she is never still. Even if you catch her sleeping, she will hear you coming and will be up and squirming about, as seen in this picture.
Did I mention Alice is noisy? Like me Alice is rarely quite. Alice meow's about everything. Alice meow’s to come in and go out, if you don’t let her in, she will pop the screen on the window. It’s loud and it tears the screen we try not to let her do that. Once I bring her in that doesn’t quite her, she follows me around meowing until I sit down. But that’s still not enough, now she meow’s to be petted and while she is being petted, just like a female she has to tell us everything. If she hasn't been fed yet she meow’s for her food. This meow is different it’s demanding with circling and pacing to and from the bowl. How much plainer can she get? Like most cat’s she gets excited about the can opener. She can be outside when you start opening a can of Tuna and will be at the door to get in before your done opening it. Meals are a noisy time here. The dogs just look at us with sad eyes, hoping we drop something, but not Lady Alice she tells us through the whole meal how much she wants our food. Alice likes most of our food, not just meat, but broccoli, and cashews. Alice loves cashews she really meows for cashews.(we try to put Alice outside before we eat, she talks to much.) In the evening when we are watching T.V. Alice comments continually, until she gets bored of it then she rubs her head against my head, which turns into chewing on my hair. Alice will rub and chew until she falls asleep laying on my head.

Kittens really love boxes.

Rumba-CourtesyPost: Domestic Short Hair - Gray And White, Cat; Voorhees, NJ
If you are looking to save one cat and provide him a great home, please meet Rumba. Rumba is approx. 2 years of age with gray striped fur, a white chest and white paws. He is friendly, independent, loves to play and is curious; he especially loves belly rubs, chasing balls of paper and especially laying in front of our gas heater soaking in the warmth. He would also love a window to sit in and watch the birds & squirrels outside. Rumba is already both updated with age appropriate vaccines & neutered. The reason he needs a new home is that he is not getting along with our older cat; he is being quite dominant with her and needs to therefore, be placed into a home as the only pet where he can thrive and be the king of his castle. If you would like to meet Rumba, please call Denise at 609-519-5208. Thank you. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19324151

Mickey

Mickey was 6 weeks old when we got him and he fit in the palm of my hand. Not in my hand; in the palm of my hand.  He looked like a fury little mouse. We would put him in our shirt pocket, so small you couldn’t tell he was in there until he peed. It only took one time being peed on to decide that wasn’t so cute. Silly us; not only did we think that we could put a six week old puppy in our pocket, we thought since he was so small he was going to stay small. We didn’t get to see the parents; so we don’t know how big they were, but we were told that he was a teacup Pomeranian. A Tea cup Pomeranian weight is from 3 to 4ilbs and Height is from 5 to 7 inches at withers. Pomeranians weigh from 5 to 7ilb and height is from 8 to 11 inches at withers. Mickey is 13ilb. Not 4 llbs and he is 12 ½ inches.  Mickey may have grown bigger then we wanted, but he didn’t grow bigger then we need. The kids took him everywhere. He was in baskets, over shoulders and of course following them everywhere.  For us it was a good thing Mickey is not a Tea cup, but a full size plus some Pomeranian. My daughter will share the story of taking Mickey on bike rides at a letter post.

Wow look at Minion's loose skin, you can see the skin wrinkling.

Introducing Koda Michael Sonneman

Koda is a purebred pedigree cocker spaniel. He was born 12/12/2010. My oldest brothers’ room-mate got him when he was three months old, from the roommate's relatives that live out of state. After the roommate tried and failed to take care of him for a month, my brother asked me if I wanted him. The decision was made instantly. I said yes.
Pet Adoption

Awe, It's that time of month again; Minion is shedding.

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Hello, My Name is Rica Sonneman.

I am Kim’s second oldest child and only daughter. I am 22 years old and I just got married last year in March. My wonderful husband Aaron and I are living with my parents while we save money for a place of our own. We have our loveable overly excited cocker spaniel puppy Koda. And I have a baby ball python named minion.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am attending college courses online. I am working towards a bachelor’s degree in business management. I plan on opening my own pet store in the future. You will find that I am a very random person and as my mother always tells me I can be silly at times. I hope you can join us in our lifetime with pets. We have so many wonderful memories to share with you all. And we are making more as we go along.
